ABOUT TOM
Writer, Leader, Observer of the natural rhythms that shape how we live, relate, and lead.
Tom James is a writer, leader, and lifelong observer of the natural rhythms that shape human life.
His writing begins with a simple recognition: we are not separate from Nature. We live within its patterns, relationships, conditions, and unfolding cycles.
Across more than forty years in leadership, entrepreneurship, organizational transformation, and creative retail, Tom has watched how people and communities grow when the right conditions are present—and how easily they lose their way when life is treated as something to control rather than something to participate in.
As CEO of Opus Art Supplies, Tom works within a community devoted to creativity, expression, and the human need to make meaning. His earlier work as a leadership specialist and business strategist took him across North America and Europe, working with organizations and leaders seeking more human, adaptive, and trustworthy ways to lead.
His first book, Footprint: A Philosophy of Living and Leading, Inspired by Nature, draws from time spent in the Serengeti and from a lifetime of reflection on leadership, relationship, growth, and legacy. Through story, photography, and reflection, Footprint invites readers to consider the mark we leave through the way we create, connect, grow, and evolve.
Tom lives in West Vancouver with his wife, Karinna. They have been married for more than fifty years. He is the proud father of Casey and father-in-law to Reza, and grandfather to Caiden and Sadie, whose presence continues to remind him of wonder, continuity, and the quiet importance of what we pass on.
